equine fine art photo session

Your horse themself is living, breathing art. All I do is create a still image for you to keep, treasure, and display forever. Commonly known as "black background portraits", my Fine Art Equine Portraits are timeless works of art created from your very own special once-in-a-lifetime horse that showcase their own unique personality. These Fine Art portraits speak for themselves and are a must-have in every equestrian's home decor.

the process
1. book your session

Booking takes place online where you easily pick your date and pay the session fee. 2 weeks before your session, you'll receive a planning guide that has everything you need to know about how to prepare your horse for their portrait session.

2. create the artwork

We'll spend the time needed to get the few perfect shots of your horse, then they'll be on their way back into their stall/pasture! I use only natural light so we won't need to worry about setting up extra equipment. A swept barn aisle with the doors closed on the opposite end is all that's needed.

3. order new home or barn decor

After your session, I’ll send you an online proofing gallery. From the gallery, you’ll select your favorites. Included in the session is 7 hand-edited images. If you fall in love with more than 7, each additional photo is $60. Once your favorites are selected, I’ll do the final retouching and send the final online gallery including high-resolution images.

From your final gallery, you’ll have the option to purchase wall art and other products. View the products page here.

frequently asked questions

Where are these photos taken?

I use the opening of a barn aisle or indoor arena. There must be a door at the opposite end of the barn that can completely shut. Make sure the barn is swept and there's enough room for your horse to stand comfortably in the opening.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my session?

$150 of the session fee is a non-refunable retainer. The rest is refundable if your session is canceled or rescheduled.

Can you photograph all [x amount] of my horses together?

Some pairs of horses we can photograph together, but generally I like to photograph them individually then place them together in post processing. This will make sure each horse is completely in focus and also avoids any personality conflicts

Can you edit _____ out?

I will always remove any scratches or other blemishes. If you have something in particular that you'd like removed let me know beforehand- like hair discoloration or scars that I'd generally leave. However, editing will not clean a dirty horse. The cleaner the horse, the better the image! I also cannot de-hair a furry coat, so being clipped or completely shed out is optimal.

How do I need to prepare for my session?

Before your session, you'll receive an online welcome packet that will guide you through everything you need to know to get ready for your session. The packet includes lots of handy check lists & tips.
