Riding holiday bucket list, with a woman riding a horse in the Lofoten mountains in Norway

After riding on my first horseback safari in South Africa with Ant's Nest & Hill in 2023, I will take any opportunity I can to fly across the world for another riding holiday adventure! I've made a list of the top 5 riding holidays that I would love to experience, in no particular order. If you're like me and find yourself thinking daily about riding on a horseback safari, this is your sign to choose your destination and officially make it happen. When you do, be sure to include me so I can document it!! See the photos I took of my clients and friends in 2025 in South Africa here!

3 photos of the horse riding holidays in Brazil featuring waterfalls, giant cliffs, and swamps on horseback

Booked through Globe Trotting Horse Riding Holidays, spend 7 days riding along dramatic mountain ranges, vast canyons, and the wild Atlantic coastline. Stay in traditional southern Brazilian ranches for an authentic gaucho cultural experience, and savor regional culinary specialties. You'd spend an average of 5-6 hours a day in the saddle with the riding pace varying from a walk to a gallop. This ride is available year round and the price includes everything from transfers to & from the airport, meals, and non-alcoholic drinks. I've never been to South America, but Brazil looks like the perfect first South American country to explore. See more info for this ride, here!

4 images of a horseback safari in Bostwana, riding in the salt pans, riding with elephants and zebra, and galloping through the flooded Okavango delta

This wildlife focused horseback safari, booked through African Horse Safaris is something I've been dreaming of for years! Spend 5 days riding through the Okavango Delta and 3 days at the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, experiencing wildlife encounters such as elephants, zebras, giraffe, lions, hyenas, and more. The accommodation for this holiday are luxury tents, which is the closest I'll get to camping! This ride is available year round but the delta floods are highest in July and August. The price includes everything from transfers to & from the airport, meals, and non-alcoholic drinks. See more info for this ride, here!

4 image collage of a horseback holiday in India, riding along water and mountains, locals with their Marwai horses, and guest's horses fueling up with goats nearby

My husband and I have been world-wide Indian food critics for the past 10+ years, eating Chicken Korma and Butter Chicken at every state and country we visit. Somehow we still haven't made it to India (the closest we've been is Fuvamulah, Maldives!) but after seeing this ride that Globe Trotting offers, I think it's time we finally try Indian food from India itself. This ride is special because you get to ride the indigenous Indian Marwai horses, known for their adorable curled ears and tolerance to hot environments. Spend 7-13 days in Rajasthan, cantering across desert dunes, tracing the Aravalli hills, and riding between ancient forts, temples and wild leopard country. This ride is for strong intermediate to advanced riders only, making it extra fun for those who are experienced horse men and women. This ride is best scheduled between October and March and the price is all inclusive. See more info for this ride, here.

This is another ride available through Globe Trotting. Spend 6-8 days soaking in the incredible scenery of Norway. Ride Icelandic horses beneath the midnight sun along hidden Arctic beaches, scale high ridge lines and winding valleys where reindeer graze and eagles circle overhead, and climb mountain trails to panoramic lookouts over the Lofoten Islands. Go in the winter for northern lights, or the summer for midnight sun. My pick would be the midnight sun! See more info for this all inclusive ride in Norway, here!

A horseback holiday in Sumba Indonesia where they ride on the beach, in the forests with locals, and watch locals herd water buffalo on the beach

I promise this post isn't sponsored by Globe Trotting (GT, if you see this, I'm more than open to sponsorships!!!) but here's another one they offer that looks incredible. This tour is a little less about riding, and a little more for luxury beach vacationing. You still get to spend 1-2.5 hours in the saddle each day riding on the beach and even seeing herds of water buffalo, but you also have the opportunity to stand up paddle board, snorkel, jet ski, surf, and join yoga and meditation group classes. The base tour is 5 days, but can be customized; I personally think I need at least 7 days here! This ride is open to all skill levels, but the weight limit is strict at 165lb maximum since we'd ride the native Indonesian Sandalwood ponies. It's available year round but dry season is April to November, so I'd choose a week within those months. See more info on this ride, here.

Writing this post has gotten me so excited about my next adventure & I hope it inspires you to book yours (and take me with you please!)
